As a native Japanese, Kumiko Kanayama has a head start on many practitioners; with her Oriental sensitivity she brings an eastern simplicity and clarity to her work. As a young graduate she arrived in the USA in 1988, studied at the Ohashi Institute and then began work as a consultant in 1992. Since living in New York, Kumiko has never ceased to be excited and stimulated by American culture and city life. It is this lively sense of enquiry that she brings to her work and makes her fascinated by each new client and each new treatment. Her work is characterized by her deep sense of spirituality and her strong commitment to working intuitively. Despite her tiny frame, Kumiko exerts tremendous power in her treatments and reduces even the largest of bodies to a relaxed pulp. Her fluid physicality and gentle touch enable her to move with a feline sensibility, combining lightness with incisive pressure. She has a lively personality, strong sense of humor and warm compassion, which make her an amiable listener. Her philosophy is deeply entrenched in her commitment to spiritual serenity and human touch as a means to harmony, not only in her own life but in the lives of those she touches.
